The Essential Oil Guide to Pugilist Brand Beard Care Products June 4, 2015 12:46
Last year we wrote an article called 'The Definitive Guide to Beard Oils' a general outline of why we chose the carrier oils, glass bottles, droppers, heat shrunk hygienic sealed bands and essential oils in our products.
The previous article can be found on our website here;
We wanted to expound on that article and make it even more informative & specific to Pugilist Brand Gentlemen's Grooming Products Beard Care & Grooming product selection.
There have been a lot of beard oil companies entering the market in the last year, many using Fragrance Oils rather than Essential Oils. While we can see the attraction of fragrance oils it should be noted they offer no benefits to the user, beyond a long lasting scent that offers a variety of completely synthetic scents that smell like chocolate, whisky, cheesecake, ice cream, breakfast and myriad other flavors.
The Essential Oils we use in our products use a natural steam distillation extraction method from the herbs, plants, trees and flowers rather than being produced synthetically in a laboratory. Essential oils such as Rosewood are ethically sourced.
Historically most Essential Oils have been used medicinally and in aromatherapy for hundreds if not thousands of years, in such cultures as Ancient Egypt, Ancient Rome, Iran, China & Europe
We offer 9 Beard Oils, each one has a narrative story and is specifically tailored towards a specific bearded lifestyle, story or fantasy. Additionally aimed towards a lifestyle, health benefit or goal such as invigoration, the outdoors, relaxation, social events as well as hair care, growth and skin care. Many of our beard conditioning oils crossover and have multiple uses.
We hope you'll find this information helpful with all your hirsute activities.

Pugilist Brand Gentlemen's Grooming Products review by The Beard Academy April 13, 2015 15:46
The fine Gentlemen at The Beard Academy reviewed our 9 Beard Oils. Here is the review in full and a link to their original article on Facebook. Thank you Gents!!
https://www.facebook.com/groups/697251603702272/permalink/858293557598075/
Los Angeles, CA. Home of the Dodgers, the Lakers, and Pugilist Brand mens grooming products. Tom Davidson is the man behind the brand, and he sure has something special. Pugilist offers everything the bearded man could ask for. Beard oils and balms, moustache wax, beard wash, soaps, beard and moustache combs, lip poultice, and even pre shave and shaving accessories. To say the bases are covered is a huge understatement. The quality of the products Pugilist offers is extraordinary. I was fortunate enough to receive a very large sampling of the Pugilist line up. I will be covering all 9 (yes, that's right, Pugilist has NINE different beard oil scents) beard oils in this review. I was also given 2 beard balms, 4 soaps, a beard wash, and a moustache wax. I will be covering those in a 2 different future reviews, so make sure you keep an eye out for them in the very near future.
Because this review will be covering 9 different oils, I'll be switching it up a little bit. I won't be doing 10 categories with the point scores. It just isn't practical for a 9 oil review. So because all of the oils use the same carrier base and use different essential oil blends, we'll go over the scent profile and essential oil make up of each oil, then go over the carrier oil make up, then go over the rest of the review. So here we go!!!
Zen Musk - Lavender, Frankincense, and Patchouli. Lavender - promotes hair growth according to some studies, treats oily skin. Also used in Alopecia study on hair loss with some positive results. A natural relaxant in aromatherapy. Frankincense – Has anti-inflammatory properties for the skin, increases the potency of the other EOs it is paired with. Patchouli - an alleged aphrodisiac, prevents hair loss. Helpful in eczema, psoriasis and beardruff. Balances hair oil
Citrus Grove - Lemon, Grapefruit, and Lime. Lemon - for oily skin, astringent, mood uplifter. Grapefruit & Lime - cleanses and removes oil from the hair. Citrus Essential oils are all mood lifters and help focus. Think of smelling a freshly squeezed lemon or lime, they invogorate, whereas lavender relaxes!
Shaman - Rosemary, Clary Sage, Clove, and Eucalyptus. Rosemary - promotes hair growth, treats oily skin and hair. Used in Alopecia study with some success. Clary Sage - also seems to promote hair growth. Clove - increases circulation and may stimulate hair growth at the root, one of nature's most potent antioxidants. Eucalyptus - a natural lice treatment and increases blood circulation at the root.
Cedar Atlas Shrugged - Tea Tree and Cedarwood. Tea Tree - for eczema and overall skin treatment. Cedarwood - relieves beard dandruff, treats acne and oily skin. Stimulates hair at the root.
Frontiersman - Birch Tar, Jasmine, Vetiver, Rosewood, and Coffee. Birch Tar - smoky smell a natural mosquito repellent. Jasmine - strengthens hair at the root and is a mood lifter. Vetiver - a grounding relaxing earthy smell, eases stress and calms nerves. Rosewood - balances hair ph between dry & oil. Coffee - stimulates the mind and adds focus, strengthens hair roots.
Mojito - Peppermint and Lime. Peppermint - promotes blood circulation at the root, Excellent skin toner and astringent. Lime - cleanses the hair, excellent astringent, also a mood uplifter as mentioned previously.
Absinthe - Aniseed, Fennel, Hyssop, Coriander, and Angelica Root. Aniseed - good for oily skin. Fennel repairs skin tissue and stimulate the skin. Hyssop - helps with anxiety ( do not use if epileptic), Coriander - helps prevent hair loss. Angelica Root - an excellent skin healer ( used in tiny quantities)
Vanilla & Sandalwood - Vanilla - mostly used for it's aphrodesiac fresh floral aroma, no apparent hair or skin benefits but a most beloved aroma scent. Amyris - sooths and softens dry irritated skin, also known as West Indian Sandalwood as the aroma is similar to Sandalwood.
Whew! Are ya still with me? That's a damn impressive line up. So now let's talk carrier oils. Almond oil, jojoba oil, argan oil, castor oil, and vitamin e round out the carrier blend.
Almond Oil: Has the ability to nourish and soften hair, while moisturizing, which reduces the risk of "dandruff". Conditions your beard makes your beard less wiry and much more manageable
Jojoba Oil: Penetrates, hydrates and strengthens hair follicles from the inside, reducing the swelling and shrinking of hair as it it gets wet and dries, which can weaken the hair fibre over time. Conditions, adds shine, elasticity and softness to hair. Adds volume and body to hair strands.
Argan Oil: Traditionally Argan oil is reputed to have aphrodisiac and tonic properties. Contains high levels of natural vitamin E (anti-oxidants) to help neutralize sun damage, important for hair exposed to polluted, dry, urban environments and contains skin-softening agents.
Castor Oil: Castor Oil is widely used in medicines and cosmetics for decades. Filled with essential nutrients, helps stop split ends and breakage. Deeply penetrating, to help it to deliver its nourishment deeply into the pores and the follicles that produce hair. High sheen properties, to lend a lush shine to the hair. The oil also has omega-6 essential fatty acids, responsible for healthy hair
Vitamin E: T50 Tocophorol all natural, tastless, odorless Grade vitamin E works both as a skin moisturizer to treat the skin beneath beards for eczema and psoriasis, itching or beard dandruff and as an antioxidant.
(The list of carrier oils and their benefits was taken directly from the Pugilist Brand website)
My first impression of the products I was given WOW!!! The packaging is top notch, the branding (logos, fonts, overall look and feel) was some of the best I've seen. I love the look of everything, and I couldn't help but think if so much attention was paid to the details for the packaging and the visual end of things, I can't wait to use this stuff. I went down the line of all nine oils in about 30 minutes, taking a break between each scent to let my nose clear out. My early favorites for scent were the Zen Musk, Mojito, and Vanilla & Sandalwood.
Application was a breeze. Truth be told, as soon as I saw castor oil on the list of ingredients I became a little apprehensive. I've only used one other oil with castor oil in it, and it was very thick and turned into almost like a glue or paste type of texture if I tried applying it to a slightly damp beard. That is absolutely not the case here. I used the 9 Pugilist oils exclusively for about a month, and each time I used it I had the same experience - a great oil that spreads wonderfully through my beard when applied with my hands, and then coats very evenly when hit with my favorite boar bristle brush. It doesn't absorb real fast, which I like, but it doesn't leave a greasy feeling behind either.
My wife was a big fan of MOST of the scents of the Pugilist Brand oils. Absinthe was the only one she didn't like. It has an extremely unique aniseed and fennel scent, which is very much like that of black licorice. Just as with black licorice, some will love it while others will, well, not. Beyond the scents, my wife mentioned more than a few times that my skin felt softer more of the time, not just after I applied some oil. She also says that the hairs in my beard look healthier, and by that she means she notices fewer split ends. So it's a win in the wife's book.
So after using Pugilist Brand for basically a month I can safely say this - I will be a Pugilist customer for a long time to come. Tom has put a lot of time, thought, blood , sweat, and tears (figuratively people, it's not literally in the bottle. Well, at least for my sake I hope it's not) into his Pugilist Brand and it shows. The passion he has for this really comes through in all the products he makes.
So do yourself a big favor and check Pugilist Brand out TODAY!!!! The full line of Pugilist Brand products can be found at www.pugilistbrand.com Please go give them a look, you will definitely not regret it.
As I said earlier, there will be 2 more Pugilist reviews coming up soon. 1 will cover the balms and the moustache wax, and the other will cover the beard wash and the soaps. Until then, let that shit grow and beard on!!!!!!!
Beard Oil & Skinny Jeans parody videos February 2, 2015 09:59
Bearded Gentlemen realize the advantage of using beard oil and beard balm to condition their beards, moisturize the underlying skin, stop beard dandruff and help prevent split ends. However, sometimes it's good not to take yourself too seriously. This video parodies the use of beard care products and we thought it was hilarious;
Skinny jeans, ermmm we're not too sure this is a parody?!. Enjoy... and don't take life too seriously, whatever your fashion goals.

The Bucardo Mustache Mug December 29, 2014 11:30
Pugilist Brand Gentlemen's Grooming Products come across items for the bearded and mustachioed gentleman that we think are worthy of highlighting, due to their artistic or utilitarian nature. Our friends at Bucardo have an item that we feel is noteworthy for both of these descriptions. As a mustachioed man who likes his morning coffee, or afternoon tea, we get constant drips from our magnificent mustache to our t-shirt, especially annoying if the t-shirt is white. The Bucardo mug is a solution to this mustachioed problem as it offers a built-in ceramic mustache guard specially designed to alleviate this annoyance.
Pugilist Brand Gentleman's Grooming Products will be adding The Bucardo Mustache Mug to our online store very shortly for only $22. Now think about how many shirts you've ruined with coffee drips, and you'll soon realize the mug will pay for itself within a week.
Back in the day, a gentleman knew how to protect his moustache. Now, a 19th century staple is revived for the modern man. The Bucardo Mug features original artwork and a classic moustache guard, a specialized semi-circular ledge with an opening that allows for safe passage of beverages while protecting your ‘stache. This is the first in a series of Bucardo Mugs celebrating moustachioed gentlemen of the world.
* 13 oz ceramic mug with moustache guard

Magnum Opus Beard & Mustache Grooming Boxes December 19, 2014 17:14
Each box is a unique, handmade collectors item and varies slightly depending on the wood, finish and rich individual patina of the specific wood grain. The box may contain small flaws as it's a reclaimed cigar box, that is reflected in the low box price of around $20 - $30 before the price of the contents.
Pugilist Brand Frontiersman Beard Oil: The official beard oil of Blacksmiths May 29, 2014 18:09
This is Reg and Ashley. They're working blacksmiths who travel around the San Fernando Valley & Greater Los Angeles area doing blacksmith work. I met them at Will Rogers State Park while I was doing a photoshoot for our new Pugilist Brand Frontiersman Beard Oil. Reg expressed interest and acquired a bottle. Luckily I had a few bottles with me. Just in case I smashed one and couldn't complete the photoshoot. Below are the finished photos I took in Topanga State Park. To me it completely validates the name of Frontiersman Beard Oil. Some might call it luck. I call it destiny!!
